  Wie alles begann

The everyday working life of a consultant leaves little time for any private life, let alone hobbies or social commitment!

"Far from it", thought five A.T. Kearney consultants, who decided to leverage their knowledge and experience "pro bono publico" or for the public good.

The search for social areas that could benefit from consultant know-how revealed one thing in particular: Our consultants shared their readiness and desire to help with a great many other people who, due to their own personal convictions and motivation, campaign and work to the benefit of others. But in many cases, projects are often less than successful or even fail due to a lack of strategic know-how, expertise and experience in the area of implementation and turning ideas into reality - that is, the 'tools of the trade' of every management consultant!

So, there was no more obvious a step to take than to mobilize this know-how and experience for the good of society. These five consultants decided not to limit their efforts and the ensuing benefits just to a single project, rather to use their expertise to contribute to the successful conclusion of a range of projects of benefit to society - and to help students who not only want to be proactive in society but also want to get to know the tools and tricks of the trade of the world of consultancy at the same time.

In 2006 these consultants sent out a request for proposals to universities and student sponsorship organizations in those countries where German is spoken. Although it wasn't easy to choose between the multitude of proposals submitted, the first two projects had been decided on by late summer: a fundraising exercise for a renowned opera house and an innovative exchange project that enables German youngsters to visit emerging and developing countries - Stiftung Welt:Klasse.

In the meantime, a growing number of A.T. Kearney consultants are assisting a whole range of projects - that are likewise growing in number.

Currently the initiative "Create a Difference" is being rolled out internationally and is opened for student-run projects around the world.
